The Medium Horror Video game

The Medium, the next horror game from Bloober Team for Xbox Series X and PC, will allow us to play in two worlds at the same time, the real and the paranormal, and travel instantly between one and the other. The Microsoft Store has expanded the information available about the game.

The protagonist, Marianne, is a medium who will have to interact with the real world and the spirit world to develop her research. This duality adds a much more attractive layer to the exploration of the game, also adding a certain level of intrigue and mystery with which Bloober Team seeks to entice players from the get-go. In the video that we have left you on these lines, the development team is in charge of showing us how this feature of the game will work.

We know in The Medium the player will control a medium who lives at the same time in the two parallel worlds. Marianne will travel to Niwa, an abandoned tourist complex. Since this a supernatural genre there is a possibility of the use of “psychic abilities to solve puzzles that mix both worlds”, some powers also necessary to “survive encounters with Maw, a monster born from an unspeakable tragedy.”

Characters and settings from different points of view

This means that the game will experience different events with different points of view, and the game will never tell you if what you have seen is good or bad. The game will show different sides of everything: places, but also people. In the game mechanics, the player will explore the two worlds at the same time, which will be shown in split screen events in one will affect the other. Also, it has been announced that Troy Baker, the voice actor of Joel in The Last of Us and Higgs in Death Stranding, will be able to voice The Maw, a terrifying entity.

The creators of Layers of Fear and Observer promise “a mature and morally ambiguous story, in which nothing is what it seems and everything has a hidden face” and where it will be necessary to discover what happened in Niwa. The style of play, which they claim has an “official patent”, will force “playing in two worlds simultaneously.”

There will be puzzles, but there will also be action scenes.

“Explore the physical world and the spiritual world at the same time and interact with each other to solve puzzles in parallel realities, unlock new paths and relive past memories”, can be read in the Microsoft Store. There will also be action scenes: “Create energy shields and launch powerful spirit attacks to survive the dangers from beyond the grave that lurk in the ghostly world.”

The store also reveals that the spirit world of the game has been created inspired by the paintings of the Polish surrealist painter Zdzisław Beksiński, whose imagery will be complemented by the soundtrack of Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill) and Arkadiusz Reikowski, who already worked with the studio on their previous games.

The Medium is available in both PC and Xbox X Series. While its release date has not been confirmed, the game is expected to debut in the release window of Microsoft’s next-gen console.
