If there’s something a good population of the Sims community has asked for since the release of the Sims 4, it’s a farming pack. Who wants a farming pack, you ask? Well, you shouldn’t be surprised that us simmers, who find joy in the mundane, want to live the simple country life of raising livestock, riding horses, and making our own butter. We sat down and thought about what we would want from a hypothetical farming expansion for the Sims and came up with the following ideas.
A Horseback Riding Skill
Much like cooking, the beginning levels of a horseback riding skill should be hilarious as much as it should be dangerous. Jumping on a horse shouldn’t burn your house to the ground as cooking would, but it would be hilarious to see our Sims fall off a horse immediately, ride backwards on it, or get kicked in the face if approaching one from behind. Eventually, our Sims will be skilled equestrians, but not without some hilarity first.
Raising crops should be the gardening skill on steroids. Instead of maintaining a small yard, the Sims will learn how to mass produce crops. However, raising crops isn’t as easy as digging a hole and putting some seeds into the ground. A lower level crop skill should have Sims lose entire season’s worth of crops, deal with pests, and plant crops that aren’t in season. It would also be nice to have a farmer’s market in a Sims farming expansion. If their crop skill is low, no one’s going to purchase their rotting pumpkins.
What’s a farm without farm animals? We already covered horses, but we should also maintain pigsties, herding pens for cows, chicken coops for eggs, and sheep pens for wool. Sims can do basic livestock care from breeding to feeding.
Do you think a Sims 4 Farming expansion is a good idea? What would you want to see?
