Resident Evil 7 was a leap for Capcom. They took their biggest franchise and changed it to a first-person, took the focus off of a zombie outbreak, and focused more on surviving against a deranged family and their molded creatures. Resident Evil 8 is the direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but people are wondering if zombies will make a comeback to the series for Resident Evil Village.
Resident Evil 8 Is Still In The Resident Evil Universe
[If you haven’t played Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the following will contain spoilers:]
Those who played through Resident Evil 7: Biohazard wondered the entire time how the game fits into the Resident Evil universe. Yes, there were zombie-like creatures called “molded” in the game, but they weren’t the traditional zombies we’ve become accustomed to in the Resident Evil series.
However, it’s not like Capcom stopped the concept of zombies cold turkey. We started to see the different effects various viruses in the series had on humans, from the Los Ganados in Resident Evil 4 and the Majini in Resident Evil 5. They’re still technically “zombies,” in the sense where they don’t have 100% control over their actions, but they’re not the slow-moving brain-dead zombies we’re used to in earlier Resident Evil games.
Resident Evil 8 (otherwise known as Resident Evil Village) follows the events of Resident Evil 7. RE7: Biohazard didn’t feel connected to the Resident Evil universe until Chris Redfield shows up in the end from a helicopter with the Umbrella Corporation helicopter. Both Ethan, the main character of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and Redfield, will appear in the Resident Evil Village Sequel, but will it have zombies?
Will Resident Evil 8 Have Zombies?
Resident Evil Village takes place a few years after Resident Evil 7: Biohazard at a location where Ethan and Mia Winters reside after the events of the previous game. The only confirmed enemy through official screenshots and the game’s trailer looks to be a werewolf-like creature and other beasts.
The presence of reported witches in the media also suggests a supernatural element to the game. Whether Resident Evil Village will have zombies is still anyone’s guess. However, we’re not very confident they will be the traditional zombies we know from early Resident Evil titles or the slow-moving brain-dead creatures from television shows like The Walking Dead.
There will no doubt be zombie-like creatures, living beings with no control over their own free will. Does that count?
