Warner Bros. is set to announce new games at its upcoming DC FanDome event.
The entertainment company announced its DC FanDome event this week, revealing it to be a free virtual fan experience that will be held on August 22nd and will run for 24-hours. The event aims to bring the universe of DC to life and will include interviews, announcements, and more.
According to a press release, the DC FanDome event will include “new announcements” from the corporation’s film and television studios, its comics studio, as well as its WB Games development studio.
The news has sparked speculation that WB Games may announce several of their upcoming games. These games may include WB Games Montreal’s supposed Batman video game and Rocksteady’s new game which many believe may be based on Superman.
Although a Harry Potter RPG game has been heavily rumoured since a trailer first leaked back in 2018, it’s unlikely that the game will be announced at the FanDome event since it appears to be based on the comics company.
However, there’s no guarantee that these games will be announced at the FanDome event as they’re only rumours at the moment. Even if they’re not announced at the DC event, we may see an official announcement some point over the summer.
The news comes just days after reports claimed that telecommunications company AT&T, which owns Warner Bros., is looking at selling its Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment gaming division, including the studios who develop for the label. According to reports, AT&T is reportedly looking at selling the division for around $4 billion to pay off its debt.
Reports suggest that Take-Two Interactive, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard are all interested in purchasing the division. However, any company that does purchase the division will not receive Warner Bros.’ intellectual properties but will have to agree to a “commercial licensing agreement” where AT&T can still gain revenue from its IPs.
The game studios included with the sale currently include Lego games creator TT Games, Rocksteady, Avalanche, NetherRealm, and several others.
What Else Will We See At The Event?
In addition to game announcements by WB Games, the DC FanDome event will feature interviews and other announcements on DC films and TV shows including Black Adam, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, Harley Quinn, The Suicide Squad, Watchmen, Batwoman, Lucifer, the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 film, and Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League.
Also featured at the event will be special presentations, exclusive footage of upcoming titles, and plenty more for all DC superfans. Speaking about the event, Warner Bros. Chair and Chief Executive Officer Ann Sarnoff said in a statement:
“There is no fan like a DC fan. For more than 85 years, the world has turned to DC’s inspiring heroes and stories to lift us up and entertain us, and this massive, immersive digital event will give everyone new ways to personalise their journey through the DC Universe without lines, without tickets and without boundaries.”
