A few weeks have passed since the great surprise of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. At that time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was presented as a remaster / remake of the first two Tony Hawk video games.
Vicarious Visions takes over from its Neversoft classics. The team held a study that worked on a good number of adaptations of this wizard of the 900 on portable consoles of the Nintendo family.
It is also the team behind Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Activision’s shaker, to rescue jewels of the past with a fresh look. The main question is to check to what extent the essence of the originals is maintained. Not only in terms of gameplay but also on stages, skaters, or songs. This is all Activision has revealed to date.
Characters in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
As incredible as it may seem, we are not facing the first update of these classics by the Californian company, since they tried it in 2012 through Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD. Instead, that Robomodo job disappeared from digital stores in 2017. To make matters worse, in 2015, the erratic Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 was released, which ended up killing the saga.
Now, Tony returns with his own “new” game. They appear with their current age, not with their more jovial and energetic aspect of the late nineties. It is due to the facial animations so that each skater’s movements are as realistic as possible in this installment.
And what skaters will there be? Aside from Tony Hawk, there will be
- Bob Burnquist
- Kareem Campbell
- Steve Caballero
- Rune Glifberg
- Bucky lasek
- Eric Koston
- Chad Muska
- Andrew Reynolds
- Rodney Mullen
- Elissa Steamer
- Geoff Rowley
- Jamie Thomas
Vicarious Visions ensures that the playable core has not changed thinking about the muscular memory of all those people who have played those 1999 and 2000 classics. Now, they have implemented an (optional) control with the analog sticks (something that had the subsequent Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, previously cited).
Logically, the most significant jump will come given by the improvement of the graphic section. It is improving both in terms of textures and resolution, reaching 4K at 60 fps. From everything related to lighting or reflections in water, evolution is tremendous in this sense.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Preorder
And what about the scenarios? After all, they are also the sauce of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Although the complete list of maps has not been provided, it has been made clear that they will all be.
The question is whether Activision refers to “all” of the original versions, with 9 and 10, which would give 19 in total; Or adding those that were exclusive to other conversions for Game Boy Color, Nintendo 64, or PC at the time. But at least the mythical ones will not be missing, yes. From the Warehouse to School II, we will have a good shot of nostalgia. Cool!
If that were not enough, the options “Create skater” and “Create park” will return, the latter being the most attractive as we can create the park of our dreams to unleash endless tricks with skaters and create our hidden gaps. And of course, these creations can be shared later on the Internet.
Obviously, this installment will have an online multiplayer mode (a maximum of eight people), but also keeping the split-screen for two players in local mode. Activision assures that there will be no microtransactions. However, we can see traces of DLC because of the Deluxe edition (10 dollars more expensive) with the character The Ripper and various retro outfits for skateboarders.
Okay, so what about music? Because it was also essential at that time of reign on PlayStation. The good news is that virtually all songs from the 1999 and 2000 games have been confirmed. Only five songs could not be included due to licensing.
