Despite the 25th anniversary of the successful Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) franchise, developer company Konami decided that the 2021 edition will not be a true sequel. Instead, they consider it a smaller “simplified offering” that will include some seasonal update content.

Although the details of the upcoming release were not disclosed, it is speculated that PES 2021 will include new uniforms and updated lists is only a few minor adjustments to the engine.

Apparently, the company is aware that it will not provide users with the experience they are accustomed to. However, to satisfy their fans, it will sell the game at an “affordable” price, and with several unannounced bonuses. He did not explain precisely what he means by that, though.

Thinking in the future

According to some specialists, the decision was made with the intention that the development team could focus on a “next-generation game. It will be a series for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Konami revealed on its website that it is working on “an up-to-date engine” that they claim will enable “astonishing improvements in all areas of the game.”

It is not well known what the company is developing. However, Konami does not want to allocate resources to anything else so as not to delay the launch of a more prestigious title.

Of course, Konami already gave some indications of what PES 2022 will be. The game that is being developed with the help of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, and presented a one-minute video with FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium and its star player Lionel Messi.

“It will bring amazing improvements to all areas of the game, including more realistic player models and animations, improved physics and photorealistic visuals,” the company said.

PES 2022 is said to undergo testing in mid-2021 and launch in late 2021. It is probably around September or October, as is often the case with annual sports video games. It means that PES will be absent from next-generation consoles for almost a year.

Therefore, we will have to wait to see if the development time is worth it. Meanwhile, PES ‘main competitor, FIFA, developed by EA Sports studio.

It is delivering two versions of FIFA 21. One of them is for current-generation consoles and another one for next-generation consoles this year.
