Welcome to GameDom’s walkthrough of The Medium. I’m doing a completely blind playthrough of the game and chronicling it as I go. This guide may miss a couple of things, but I’ll try to be as thorough as possible.
When you first start the game, you watch a couple of scenes to start the story. You’ll get a short scene where a girl is apparently murdered, and the main character (Marianne) narrates the opening.
Once you get to the scene where Marianne is standing by the window, you can take control of her. The only thing of note in this room is a calendar.
Head out the door where you’ll get a tiny scare from a cat. Head down the hallway and enter the open room to the left.
Once you’re in there, there are a couple of items you can click on to drive Marianne’s narration and set up the story. However, the main thing in this room is the tie clip. You’ll open the tie clip box, and it will be empty.
You’ll have to activate your insight to see the tie clip was hidden behind the clock.
Now that you’ve picked up the tie clip, it’s time to head down to the funeral home to say goodbye to Jack. You can go through the room to the left if you want more backstory.
After exploring Marianne’s childhood room, head back down the hallway and go right (Marianne’s left if you’re coming from her bedroom).
Enter the room to the right, where you’ll see an empty cat bowl. Grab the cat food from the counter to fill it up. The cat will run in and eat, and you will get the achievement “Famished Feline.” There’s a newspaper on the table that sets the timeframe of the game.
After reading through the newspaper, there’s a red room on the right.
Walking into it will put you in a photo darkroom. Grab a photo on the right and follow the instructions on the wall for developing photos.
If done correctly, you’ll get a completed photo of Jack.
Leave the kitchen and go right; there’s a laundry room to the right with nothing of note. Go out the door to the left to exit the house.
Make your way through the hallway and outside the door.
Walk down the stairwell and enter the door in the background.
As soon as you enter this ornate hallway, you’ll see the funeral home to the right.
Use the funeral home key to open the door.
Once you enter, you’ll have the option to go right to the prep room or left into an office. The prep room is locked. You’ll have to go into the office to find the key.
Make sure you’re clicking on everything you can click on. When I observed the wall, I obtained the Inner Investigator achievement (Inspect 25 objects in a single playthrough).
Grab the key from Jack’s desk.
Use the key to open the prep room door.
When you enter the prep room door, you’ll walk down the stairs and enter the prep room. Head to the end of the room to find Jack’s resting place.
Pull Jack out; when you do, you’ll notice he’s missing his tie. It’s sitting nearby on the chair.
Combine the tie and tie clip together.
Once you do, you’ll get a short scene where she puts Jack away. However, after that, something dark exits the room.
Head out the door, where you’ll see a shadow figure at the top of the stairs.
Head up the stairs, where you’ll see the door to the office close.
The office is a mess as if someone’s been looking for something. You’ll get another scare from the cat. Head near the urns on the wall, where you’ll see one has fallen and broken.
After you examine the urn, you’ll get your first dual-reality scene. This one simply shows off dual-reality, you won’t do anything gameplay-wise, but it drives the story.
After saying goodbye to Jack, the dual-reality scene ends, and she gets a call from a mysterious stranger.
Who could it be?
