The Summer of Gaming event organized by IGN has started tonight with multiple announcements, trailers, interviews, and gameplays of all kinds of video games. One of the big names that were going to be seen during the broadcast was Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the next series of the famous SEGA saga that will be released in the West later this year.
SEGA has released new Yakuza gameplay: Like a Dragon. The game is the seventh series in the saga and features a new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, and a new location.
It will serve as a “reboot” for players who want to join the saga. In Japan, the game was released on January 16, 2020. As we learned last May, the new game from the Yakuza Team will be available on Xbox launch X Series.
What This New Series Looks Like
The new series of Yakuza will change its beat’em’up combat for a system more similar to RPG. Also, the new images have shown more information on how battles will work.
We see a very clean transition between battle and fighting, and the interaction of the player with the rest of the team members. We can give commands and have abilities based on our friend’s personality and characteristics.
One of the novelties is that there will be a class system with 19 different classes that we can choose for our characters. It will be based on real-life work. Besides, each class will have its own costumes, which we can use to customize the protagonists, and more outfits will be added as “post-launch content.”
Although the game is set in a different location, there will be some kind of connection to Kamurocho and the characters we already know. However, the Sega of America localization director has specified that the game has a system of qualities and personalities that can be improved throughout the game and has compared it to that present in the Persona saga games.
The Protagonist in This Series
Through new gameplay of up to fourteen minutes of pure gameplay, Scott Strichart, one of the producers responsible for the location of the titles, has commented on some interesting aspects that are introduced in this expected RPG. With the introduction of the new protagonist, Kasuga Ichiban, the developers wanted their relationship with other characters and the formation of teams to be two of the keys to the video game.
With the gender change, many users wondered how the classic formula would change to be able to adapt correctly to the standards of an RPG. Strichart took the opportunity to clear one of the most common doubts. Each character will have different outfits (with their respective variants) as “armor,” and even with the game on sale. They will continue to add more and more costumes that you would expect from a Yakuza.
In case there was any doubt, the hilarious typical sub-stories of the saga will present again in Like a Dragon. If anyone wondered if they could flirt with women from Yokohama, as you have seen in Judgment, Strichart has confirmed that he can improve the parameters of the protagonist’s personality. According to him, this factor will be important when establishing such relationships within the game.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is now available in Japan. Unfortunately, Western users will have to wait until the end of this year to be able to enjoy it both on Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and even Xbox Series X.
