Sony has announced a new date for its PS5 games showcase event.
The tech giant had originally announced the event two weeks ago for June 4th. The event, which features the tagline “The Future of PlayStation”, was delayed indefinitely in response to the protests occurring worldwide over the death of George Floyd.
After updating the description of the original announcement video on YouTube telling fans a new date was “coming soon”, Sony has today confirmed a rescheduled date for the reveal event.
Sony announced the new date after a Twitch advertisement leaked it earlier today. Sharing an image of the new DualSense controller, the official Sony PlayStation Twitter account confirmed the date, saying: “See you Thursday, June 11 at 1:00pm Pacific Time (9:00pm BST) for a look at the future of gaming on #PS5”.
The tweet also linked to an updated blog post by Sid Shuman, the Senior Director of Content Communications at Sony Interactive Entertainment. In the post, Shuman shared details of the upcoming event and touch on why the company decided to delay it.
He wrote: “Hi all – thanks for being patient and understanding while we rescheduled this PS5 event for Thursday, June 11 at 1pm Pacific Time / 9pm BST. We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.
“Now that the event is confirmed for June 11, I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames-per-second. This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”
Shuman ended the post by writing: “It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can – there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”
What Will Be Shown?
Since Sony’s initial announcement, there have been countless rumours regarding the games the tech giant will unveil during the one-hour event. It’s thought that some of the games that may make an appearance at Sony’s reveal will be Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and Bluepoint Games’ remake of either Demon’s Souls or Bloodborne.
It’s thought that Resident Evil 8, which will feature the return of Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield, will also be unveiled at the event. Fans are also hoping for an announcement of a sequel to Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man.
There’s also been speculation that we may get announcements for a Silent Hill remake which has been rumoured for months. Other games that could make an appearance include Warner Bros Montreal’s Batman game and the leaked Harry Potter RPG, but these are unlikely.
Finally, we may also see announcements for new IPs but all of the game rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until confirmed by Sony. Thankfully, we only have a couple of days to wait until then!
