New rumours suggest that Sony may be announcing a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn and a remake of Demon’s Souls at its PS5 showcase event next week.
Sony PlayStation officially announced its game showcase for June 4th yesterday (April 29) and the official Twitter account for Horizon Zero Dawn reacted to the news by sharing a tweet of the announcement alongside two hand-over-mouth emojis.
This has sparked speculation that a sequel to the PlayStation exclusive game could be unveiled at the showcase, particularly since it’s been well over three years since Guerrilla released the original game.
What’s more, there have been frequent job postings suggesting that Guerrilla Games is working on a sequel. Actress Janina Gavankar, who played Tatai in Horizons The Frozen Wilds DLC, slipped up about the sequel, telling fans at a Star Wars Celebration event that it’s “incredible” and she knows “some secrets”.
There’s also a Horizon Zero Dawn comic book series launching in August which takes place after the events of the original game, and eager fans spotted what looks like a new machine on one of the comic’s variant covers.
Horizon Zero Dawn released in February 2017 for the US and March 2017 for the rest of the world. The game follows Aloy, a hunter in a post-apocalyptic future where the world is overrun by strange machines, who sets out to uncover her and the world’s mysterious past. The game, which is being released on PC, was praised for its story, visuals, open-world, as well as the performance from actress Ashly Burch. However, the game received criticism over its character models, dialogue, and melee combat. Despite this, the game went on to win dozens of awards and has become one of the best-selling games on the PS4.
Demon’s Souls Remake
There’s also speculation that the long-rumoured Demon’s Souls remake may be announced at the PS5 game showcase. A remake of the popular PS3 game has been rumoured for months due to hints and teases from various gaming industry insiders.
The rumours so far suggest that developers Bluepoint Games is the team behind the supposed Demon’s Souls remake. The studio is known for its remakes, having developed Shadow Of The Colossus, Gravity Rush, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
The studio is reportedly working on two remakes for the PS5, one of which could be the Demon’s Souls remake. There’s been debate over what the second remake is but rumours suggest it could be either a remake of the Jak And Daxter trilogy or a remake of Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next week to find out what games will be announced for the next-gen console. The event will reportedly run for more than an hour and will presumably include various announcements and gameplay videos.
