Tech giant Nintendo has announced that it will be releasing an updated version of Pikmin 3 for its Switch console.
Nintendo announced the news today, revealing that the upcoming game, titled Pikmin 3 Deluxe, is an updated version of the 2013 Wii U game. As reported by Nintendo Life, the new release will include all DLC as well as new difficulty modes.
Also included are new missions featuring Olimar and Louie which act as an introduction and epilogue to the game’s main story campaign. If that isn’t enough, the upgraded will also feature two-player local co-op, the introduction of the Piklopedia to track information about creatures, and some quality of life improvements.
Pikmin 3 is a strategy and exploration in which players must guide small creatures named Pikmin across a planet known as PNF-404. The Pikmin, controlled by the player, must work together to overcome obstacles, fight enemies, and explore the planet.
An official description from Nintendo reads: “Pikmin 3 Deluxe delivers a full suite of additions and enhancements, including the ability to play the whole Story mode in co-op with a friend, new side-story missions which can also be played in co-op, and all the Mission mode DLC stages from the original game’s release.
“With new difficulty options, lock-on targeting, optional hints and the choice to play at a more relaxed pace, it’s easier than ever to join in on the Pikman fun, enjoy the game’s beautiful scenery and get a taste of what this vibrant world has to offer.”
It continues: “Fun features from the original game also return in Pikmin 3 Deluxe, such as the in-game camera, which allows players to snap photos of the game’s lush environments and curious creatures from a pint-sized perspective.
“For seasoned players who are ready to deploy their Pikmin-plucking skills in some new challenges, Pikmin 3 Deluxe adds new side-story missions featuring Olimar and Louie exploring planet PNF-404. And for a bit of friendly Pikman-flinging fun, there are even head-to-head multiplayer matches available in Bingo Battle.”
Alongside the announcement, Nintendo released a trailer for the game and revealed it will be launching on October 30th, more than seven years after the original Pikmin 3 game released for the Wii U.
Will There Be A Pikmin 4?
Meanwhile, Nintendo has confirmed that it is working on Pikmin 4, a new game in the Pikmin franchise. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto told Eurogamer back in 2017 that the game was still in development, although the title was first announced back in 2015.
Unfortunately, there haven’t been any more updates since then but the surprise announcement of Pikmin 3 Deluxe does suggest that Nintendo understands that fans are wanting more Pikmin gameplay, even if it isn’t the publisher’s most famous franchise.
If Pikmin 4 is set to release anytime soon, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement. There are rumours that Nintendo will be hosting another Direct sometime this month, but nothing has been announced. Until then, we wait.
