New details of the alleged Super Mario 35th Anniversary Collection game for the Nintendo Switch have leaked online.
Back in March, VGC reported that Nintendo was planning on celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario by re-releasing most of the franchise’s titles on the Switch. The supposed games include Super Mario Galaxy and sequel Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D World, Mario 64, and Super Mario Sunshine.
New leaks have pretty much confirmed that the game is indeed real and according to Nintendo insider Zippo, the collection will be announced at Nintendo’s rumoured Direct broadcast next week on July 20th.
As reported by Wccftech, Zippo shared even more details about the upcoming collection on ResetEra, claiming that Nintendo will be releasing several collections. The first will reportedly include Mario 64 from 1996, Super Mario Sunshine from 2002, and Super Mario Galaxy from 2007.
Unfortunately, Zippo stated that Mario 64 won’t be a full remaster and will just be a little “better looking” than the original title with widescreen support. He also confirmed that Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy will be HD ports of the original Gamecube and Wii titles.
In separate posts, Zippo claimed he was doing his best to “level people’s expectations” regarding the re-releases, saying: “Some people are expecting a Mario 64 remake in the Odyssey engine, and that’s not happening.”
He also confirmed that there will be a deluxe edition of Super Mario 3D World which will include new content. However, Zippo didn’t reveal any additional information about the title or any other upcoming collections. Although the leaks seem to certify that the collection and re-releases are real, it’s still important to take this with a pinch of salt, at least until Nintendo officially announces it themselves. Luckily, the tech giant is rumoured to hold a new Direct broadcast early next week so it’s not too much of a wait.
Paper Mario: The Origami King
News of the collection comes amid the release of Nintendo’s latest title; Super Mario: The Origami King. The title is the latest instalment in the Paper Mario series and a sequel to the Wii U’s Paper Mario: Colour Splash from 2016.
The new game sees users play as a paper version of Mario in a 3D world which players can collect items, interact with other characters, tackle numerous enemies, and solve paper-based puzzles throughout the world.
The Origami King follows the story of King Olly who seizes the Princess Peach’s castle in a plan to take over the world. Mario is forced to partner up with Browser, Olly’s sister Olivia, and other characters to take down Olly, rescue Princess Peach, and save the world.
The title includes traditional Paper Mario gameplay mechanics but also introduces new ones such as the revamped combat system. In The Origami King, combat takes place on a multiple-row ring where players must rotate and line enemies up to take them out.
