Rumors of a new Prince of Persia have been rumbling for some time, and many were wondering if the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was getting a remake or if there would be a new Prince of Persia title revealed during September 10th’s Ubisoft Forward.

Of course, leave it up to the internet to do a little digging around to leak the possibility of a new title in the Prince of Persia series. However, the rumbling rumors couldn’t decide whether or not it would be a remaster of the first Prince of Persia title or if it would be a complete remake. All signs pointed towards the possibility of a remake when a Guatemalan retailer accidentally surfaced a listing for a Prince of Persia Remake. It seemed likely Ubisoft was going to save such a big announcement for their September Ubisoft Forward event.

Fortunately, that’s exactly what Ubisoft did at their September 10th, 2020 Ubisoft Forward event. Not only did they make the announcement that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was getting a full remake, but we wouldn’t have to wait very long for it either. The remake is scheduled to release January 21st, 2021, for the current-generation and next-generation consoles as well as the PC for about $40.

This is good news for those who were wondering when another Prince of Persia game was going to come out. It almost seemed as if Prince of Persia was replaced entirely by another Ubisoft-owned series: Assassin’s Creed.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time itself is already a reboot of the original Prince of Persia series dating back to the late 1980s. It’s one of the most beloved titles of its time and enjoyed critical acclaim soon after its launch back in 2003. It’s because of Prince of Persia that other games followed suit, emulating its combat style from the Assassin’s Creed series to the Batman: Arkham series.

It makes sense for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to have a remake now to, hopefully, save Ubisoft from its current drama that they’ve addressed at September’s Ubisoft Forward.

  1. Man, I used to play the original Prince of Persia back in the 90′. Hours of hours of playing! I haven’t really played the last instalments, but I might try this new one, it look really good.
