Is Dual-Reality Poorly Optimized In The Medium

Some players are barely pushing the minimum system requirements for The Medium, while others exceed the recommended requirements, and even run it with an SSD. However, regardless of what specs you’re playing with or what system you’re playing on, it looks like (almost) everyone has one thing in common: they’re experiencing FPS loss in dual-reality.

The FPS Performance Drop Is Bad In Dual-Reality

As soon as they experience their first dual-reality scene, many players noticed that they take a huge FPS hit, regardless of what they’re playing on.

Some go into their settings to try to fix their resolution or lower their graphics settings only to not see any difference. For some, The Medium is almost unplayable when dual-reality gameplay starts.

While we were expecting the dual-reality gameplay in The Medium to be taxing to even the best computers, it should have still been playable, even with minimum system requirements at the lowest settings possible. At some point, it simply breaks immersion to the game when Marianne is skipping across the screen, or you don’t see her abilities at all because of how badly the game stutters. Hopefully, some updates should fix these issues.

  1. I have the opposite effect with the game. During dual world sessions, I do take a small dip in FPS, but I find mine hurting more in outside environments, such as the bike ride to the old fort after the “tutorial” area. There was one scene with a door where my FPS dropped all the way down to 12 with ray tracing on. The same scene without ray tracing I was getting 130 though. That’s with a 3080 at 1440p. There’s definitely some optimization issues. I can understand taking a 30 FPS loss with ray tracing, but not 120
