Far Cry 6 has officially been announced after the game leaked on the Hong Kong PlayStation store.
The game was spotted on the PlayStation Store earlier today with a release date for February 18th, 2021, for PS4 and PS5 consoles. The title has since been taken down but many social media users managed to take screenshots of the leaked game before it was removed.
One user named AlexRichard65 shared several screenshots of the store page on Twitter, showcasing the game’s cover which features actor Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian standing behind a child against a tropical background.
According to ComicBook.com, description of the title reads: “Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. As the dictator of Yara, Anton Castillo is intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has reignited a revolution.”
It seems that Esposito, who had previously hinted at being involved in a video game, will be playing Castillo. Also in the description were some gameplay details claiming that players will play as guerilla fighter Dani Rojas in what’s described as “the largest Far Cry playground to date” which includes beaches, jungles, and the densely populated Esperenza – the capital city of Yara.
Further details confirmed that throughout the game, players will use “makeshift weapons”, vehicles, and new Fangs for Hire team the Amigos to take on Castillo and “burn the tyrannical regime to the ground”.
Ubisoft’s Official Announcement
AlexRichard65 also discovered on the product page that players who purchase a PS4 copy of the game first will later receive a free upgrade to the PS5 version if they move to the next-gen console later down the line. The game will most likely also release for the Xbox One and Series X consoles with a free next-gen upgrade too.
The game was planned to be announced at Ubisoft’s Forward showcase event on Sunday, but the leak has now forced the publishing giant to official announce the title early.
Not long after the title leaked on the PlayStation Store, Ubisoft officially announced with a short teaser for the game on the official Far Cry Twitter account. The footage features Castillo smoking a cigar while promoting the Sunday event.
Alongside the clip, the Far Cry Twitter account wrote: “Anton would not be pleased. See you on Sunday at #UbiForward.”
The news comes just days after gameplay of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla video game leaked onto the web, including a look at a supposed boss fight.
Ubisoft’s #Forward event is only a few days away and it’s there that we can expect more information on the game and its story, as well as gameplay footage and more. Ubisoft will also showcase other upcoming details including Watch Dogs: Legion.
Make sure to check back next week for more information on Far Cry 6 and all things next-gen.
