Last week, there was a leak on the Microsoft Store about this game. As a result, there was no waiting for EA to confirm it.
Electronic Arts has announced Star Wars: Squadron. It is a new video game set in the galactic franchise that will go on sale on October 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Spaceship battles will be the protagonists in this new title developed by the Canadian team of Motive Studios. For your information, this team has already participated in the development of Star Wars Battlefront II.
The Star Wars Squadron story will take place right after the events of Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. It will be playable both through a single-player campaign and multiplayer with 5vs5 games, which looks like it will be the highlight of this game. Coinciding with the announcement, the North American publisher has also released the first cinematic trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons.
The game will put players in the shoes of an elite pilot from the New Republic or the Galactic Empire. The player regains the first-person view that is typical of classic Star Wars video games.
It also looks like the space battle game we knew popular during the 1980s and the 90s. It will also retrieve the remembered ships from the original trilogy, such as the iconic X-Wing and Tie Fighter.
EA has described the title as a “first-person, immersive space battles experience,” which certainly fits with its idea of making it accessible to VR devices.
The Game Features We Know So Far
Among the most striking feature of the game is it can connect PS VR. The virtual reality glasses people usually use for PS4, and PC games (without specifying compatible helmet models) will undoubtedly make battles feel like in the cabins of the ships.
Besides, the publisher also reports that the game will have cross-play support, which will allow cross-multiplayer between users on all platforms. There has also been a discussion about the individual mission and a multiplayer campaign. Notably, it adapts their new features on ‘Need for Speed: Heat’, cross-play. Definitely, it is a feature EA is betting heavily on.
The game will not be sold at the full price at which these news usually arrive. Instead, it will be available at 39.99 euros. It indicates that it will not include as many contents as another standard price will have.
Also, in the press release that Electronic Arts has sent to the media, it is stated that “Star Wars: Squadrons will offer various customization options through rewards and bonuses. This option will be available inside the video game.” This point has to do with the controversy that arose almost three years ago with Star Wars Battlefront II, which generated quite a stir for how it dealt with progression due to a controversial micro-payment system.
October 2, 2020, is the expected date for the launch of this game, which will arrive on PS4, Xbox One and PC (Origin, Steam and Epic Games Store).
