Best Settings for Large and Small Groups in Among Us

Among Us is one of the most fun games to play online either with strangers or with friends…or even any combination of the two. The main thing to pay attention to is balancing the games you’re running so that Impostors and Crewmates don’t inadvertently find themselves disadvantaged.

Based on the number of people in your group, how many Impostors you have can mean the difference between balanced and clearly OP for either side. The number of Impostors in the game and other settings can be tuned based on your group size to ensure the games you run are fun for everyone.

In this post, we’re outlining two different setups, one for large groups of over 7 players and one for small groups of 6 and fewer. Keep in mind, not everyone will always agree with your rules and settings so you may need to make some compromises.

Small Group Settings

For a group of 6 or less, the following settings can make for a pretty balanced game:

  • Impostor: 1
  • Confirm Ejects: Off
  • Crewmate Vision: 0.5x
  • Impostor Vision: 1.75x
  • Kill Cooldown: 30s
  • Kill Distance: Long
  • Common Tasks: 0
  • Long Tasks: 1
  • Short Tasks: 4 or more

The single Impostor may seem extreme but trust us, it’s ideal for a small group. A single Impostor is actually quite powerful considering your chances of uncovering them is greatly lowered from the get-go. The rest of the settings are designed to ensure that the strength in numbers Crewmates have at their advantage isn’t too great.

In a previous article[1] , we discussed how common tasks are a great way to weed out Impostors which is why they’re absent from this setup. We’re also keeping Long tasks to a minimum to help keep the power of Sabotages down a bit. Finally, Confirm Ejects provides way too much information to Crewmates so we’re turning that off, too.

Large Group Settings

Large groups in Among Us are a lot more fun because there’s so much flexibility you can have with the settings. That being said, we’ve concluded that the following setup can make for a very balanced and fair game:

  • Impostor: 2
  • Confirm Ejects: Off
  • Discussion Time: 75s or more
  • Voting Time: 30s
  • Crewmate Vision: 1.0x
  • Impostor Vision: 1.75x
  • Kill Cooldown: 45s
  • Kill Distance: Medium
  • Common Tasks: 1
  • Long Tasks: 1
  • Short Tasks: 3 or more

Once again we’re keeping Confirm Ejects off as this can provide a big advantage regardless of your group size. Two Impostors is a standard setup as it provides them with scarcity advantage while also giving Crewmates a fair shake from getting over-Sabotaged and killed too often. Having one common task seems quite fair but this may be a point of contention in your group so be prepared to negotiate your choice.

Final Word

As mentioned earlier, some people may disagree with your Among Us server settings and that’s fine. Among Us games vary from group to group which is where the beauty of the game truly lies. Try these setups a few times and see how the rest of your server feels.
